What to consider at the outset to help your medical animation project run smoothly.

Are you thinking about commissioning a medical animation project? Perhaps you’re at the early stage of gathering quotes or you’re preparing for a project kick-off. Here are some aspects you can start thinking about now to help the production flow as smoothly as possible.

Communicate Your Business Objectives

Make sure the animators fully understand why you need a video. They will then give time and emphasis to the right part of the story to ensure the final video aligns with the your goals.

Share Visual References with the Animation Team

Share examples of videos you both like and dislike. These references can guide the initial look and feel of the animation during the design phase, helping reach the end style faster.

Clarify Usage Rights at the Project Outset

Consider where you want to use this animation. Do you want to show this video online? Or is it for internal training? The voice over and music will likely involve a cost for usage rights. Discussing this at the beginning of the project and incorporating any necessary allowances into the budget avoids any surprises or complications later on in the project.

Record the Voiceover Early

Once the script and storyboard are approved, we recommend recording the professional voiceover at the start of animation phase. This allows the action to be timed to the voiceover from the start, ensuring that the visuals sync seamlessly with the audio.

Flag Early Supply Deadlines

Some Congresses ask for supply of a video weeks before the event. Likewise, if your final review process is lengthy the animation studio needs to build that in from the outset to avoid last-minute rushes.

Plan for Local Adaptations

Is the animation being produced by a global team for use at a Congress in a different country? Give the animation studio a heads up that there will need to be a separate edit adapted to those local regulations or country-specific compliance. Preparing for these adaptations from the start can help prevent delays and ensure the final product meets all regional standards.

Fancy giving these a try on your next project? Consider getting in touch so we can ensure a smooth production for you.
